Subtle & Not So Subtle Lesson in AF

Animal Farm is replete with subtle and not so-subtle lessons on blind conformity and the misuse of power. What are some of the lessons you've personally taken away from the novel regarding education of the masses, knowledge of history, idealist thought and class structure? Has the novel changed your worldview in any way?

  1. Most of the people (animals)in the book are actually ignorant and dumb compared to the leaders on intricacies of leading a nation. They also are too stupid to realize whether their leader has their interest at heart or is taking advantage of his position. I learned that eventually you can become corrupted from the very thing you are trying to be freed from.

    2. i agree 100% Nijel because most of the animals can barely read and understand some words, so the leaders use reverse psychology to mislead the other animals.

    4. Nijel is correct in this statement. The animals view almost anything the pigs say as truth.

    1. i agree with this because the animals just believed everything they heard or saw was true so they really didnt know if power was being abused...

    1. This is also true. They inflicted fear into the minds of the other animals by using the dogs.

    2. i agree that most likely the animals think they might die if they say something about the leader

  4. It gave me the lesson of power of individual thinking. The animals all listened to the pigs as their leader. They just accepted everything the pigs said as truth. And blocked out truth of the outside world. Communism in Russia was the exact same way.

  5. I agreed with this comment the animals actuslly do act quite dumb and ignorant and you see it throughout the book, and yes like nijel said maybe they should have considered them having their best interest at heart and also i agree with the comment of being corrupted from what you are trying to be freed from because sometimes we dont always make the righ decisions.

  7. The animals dont realize whether their owner has their best intrest at heart or not. This is simliar to the people we have in this world. Some people dont care and some people get the wrong view of things and think what they want.
